Installer dies immediately

I've downloaded the CS3 beta number of times and have it installed on my
graphics desktop, but on a new graphics notebook which is replacing another
which crashed completely. The download and extraction to a seperate download
directory complete fine. When I click on the PS Setup icon the installer
immediately starts shows the green progress bar, and then within about 15
seconds dies without explanation or error message. This is on a XP Pro
notebook with 1G of RAM 2.8mhz cpu. I've also tried running the installer
after extracting it to the temp directory on C, and from the original download
directory which is mounted from my graphics desktop, all with the same result.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. From what I see on my desktop version
(which I only get to use on weekends) there's a lot to work with.

Are you updated to XP SP2 on your notebook?

Make sure there are no other instances of setup.exe running in the Task Manager. Clear out your temp folder.

I have the same problem on a Vista Ultimate notebook with 2RAM duo core. I
extracted it to its own folder on the desktop and it still won't install. It
starts shows the green bar and then it disappears and i get no explanation or
error reports.

I have the same problem on vista x64. The installer gets extracted. When i run
it a setup bar appears
for a few seconds and then dissappears. The task manager shows the setup
program closed.
You can find the install log in the default extraction folder and it says
internal error 2739.

I think I solved it, at least for me. Even though Vista Ultimate was an oem
install on a new HP 9260 notebook, and I went through all of the start up
configuration stuff for a new notebook, they don't take you through the Vista
OS activation part. Only AFTER I manually went through the ACTIVATION of Vista
have I had no more installation issues with any of my software on the notebook
under Vista. This not only applies to CS3, but many other programs as well.
